The Uncharted Waters of Social Media In Internet Marketing
So, picture this: you're navigating through the vast ocean that is the internet, and you're trying to discover new ways to get your brand out there, right? This is where social media comes into play. As Elsie from down under (that's Australia for the non Aussies here), I've seen businesses tossed around like little boats in a storm due to poor internet marketing. But once they hoist their social media sails up high, oh boy, suddenly they're cruising
Half of our planet's population, that's about 4 billion people, use social media. Even my nan who can barely use her cellphone is on Facebook! So basically, if your business is not using social media for marketing, there's a good chance you're missing out on a huge audience share. What's more, according to a Fun Fact Corner at Statista.com, a whopping 97% of digital consumers use social media! You can bet your bottom dollar that any successful marketing strategy would have social media at its core.
Fishing in the Right Social Media Pond
Here's where things can get a bit tricky. Not all social media platforms are created equal, and each one has its own unique ecosystem (see, I told you we were going on an exploration!). As a marketer, understanding the demographics and behaviour of each platform's users can translate to better targeting and reach. You wouldn't use a deep-sea fishing rod in a garden pond, would you? Of course not, that's absurd!
Let's take Facebook for instance. It's the biggest fish in the pond, with over 2.8 billion monthly active users in 2021. Can you imagine all the consumers you can connect with? And then there's Instagram, popular with the younger crowd, perfect for visual storytelling with photos and short videos.
Now, let me tell you a little story from my blogger days. I remember when I was just starting out and struggling to gain followers on my blog. Then, I discovered the power of Pinterest! My blog was about DIY crafts, and guess what? The Pinterest crowd loves that stuff! My followers started increasing almost overnight, and all because I'd finally found the right platform for my target audience.
Creating a Splash With Authentic Content
Forget the clickbait and the bombastic headlines folks. In the world of social media, authenticity reigns supreme. People are more likely to share, like or engage with content they find genuine and in line with their beliefs and interests. It’s all about creating that emotional connection, letting them see you're not just some faceless brand but rather a community they can be a part of.
In 2020, Twitter reported that brand tweets with video saw 10x more engagement than those without. Why? Because videos are more immersive and authentic. You can show people what’s going on behind the scenes, do live Q&As, or run webinars. Now that's how you get the conversation started!
Engaging and Nurturing your Audience
The key to a successful marketing campaign on social media is audience engagement and nurture. Successful brands don't just post content and run, they cultivate relationships with their followers by replying to queries, engaging in conversations, or even running contests and giveaways.
Remember, it is easier to retain existing customers than to acquire new ones. When a customer feels that they are part of a community, they are more likely to remain loyal to your brand, and importantly, advocate for you. Ever heard of word-of-mouth marketing on steroids? That's social media for you!
Driving Traffic to your Website
This is where the rubber meets the road, people. Carefully crafted social media posts can be like signposts pointing people toward your website. And guess what happens when you get more web traffic? Yep, higher chances for conversions!
Take advantage of things like the 'Swipe Up' feature in Instagram stories or bios, or clickable links in Facebook posts. Note, however, that where possible, always try to generate organic traffic. People are savvy, they don't want to feel like they've been tricked into visiting your website.
Analytics: The Compass in our Marketing Adventure
So, you've set sail on your marketing adventure, yeah? Now, to ensure you're steering your ship towards success, you've gotta use analytics. They'll show you what's working and what's not, which platform is giving the most ROI, which type of content your audience is engaging with, and so much more!
I remember how I used to be scared of numbers and analytics. Then one day, I realized that these figures are like hints from a treasure map, leading me straight to the gold. And trust me, nothing beats the thrill of seeing those engagement and conversion rates climb!
So whether you're a seasoned professional or a new fish in the big social media sea, remember to remain adaptable, keep your content authentic, and most importantly, have fun with it! After all, social media is all about making connections, so let's not forget the social in social media.
