Like most WordPress theme frameworks, the Buffet Framework utlises WordPress actions and filters to allow theme developers to add additional content without editing the template files using the child theme concept.

With it, users of the child theme itself can enable/disable that extension easily whenever they want via the options panel“. That being said, however, the framework has not been updated since mid 2009, which was back with WordPress v2.7, so it is likely out of date and possibly has a few compatibility issues with latest versions of WordPress.

Although these 12 frameworks may be some of the more well-known options, there are dozens more available across the web. Each of these frameworks is a very viable option for some project or other, but none of them are perfect for every single project. Some have extensive code bases and as many tools and gadgets you could possibly ever need, while others are much more minimal, but all of them have their perks and downsides.
